NASA's Katherine Johnson (IV&V) Facility, located in Fairmont's I-79 Technology Park, is unique in that it is one of its kind. This center focuses on creating strategies to provide the highest achievable levels of safety and cost-effectiveness for mission critical software. Constructed in 2005, our NASA facility has lead the charge as an example of a high-tech organization that can succeed in the area. Along with NASA, the I-79 Technology Park is also home to FirstEnergy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the FBI, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Spectrum, and Computer Sciences Corporation. The NOAA satellite program located within the park provides 99 percent of the climate data for this hemisphere. Many of the organizations located here are some of the federal government's largest agencies while the rest of them consist of private R&D programs who act as government contractors.

The summer of 2017 marked the arrival of Sheetz,Inc. into our community. Sheetz is a national chain store located in the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia consisting of convenience store items as well as a made-to-order food service and a fuel station. Prior to the arrival of Sheetz, citizens of Fairmont had been expressing their demand of Sheetz's product for many years.
As the summer of 2017 welcomed Sheetz on the west side of town, the summer of 2018 helped the east side of Fairmont welcome in a brand-new McDonald's facility with cutting edge technology. The store is described as a prototype and one of the first of its kind by the world-renowned restaurant chain. What makes this version of the McDonald's drive-thru restaurant unique is its digital self-order kiosks in the dining room, digital menu boards, a new style beverage bar, a modernized counter, and mobile order & pay with curbside service.
Fairmont prides itself among being home to unique services and technology that may be difficult to find elsewhere.
